On the morning of April 21st, the signing ceremony of the strategic cooperation agreement between the Shanghai Qi Zhi Institute for Advanced Study (SIAS) and East China Normal University (ECNU) was held at the Putuo Campus of ECNU.
Academician Andrew Chi-Chih Yao, the director of SIAS and a Turing Award laureate, and President Qian Xuhong of ECNU, representing both parties, signed the agreement.
According to the agreement, the two institutions will deepen their cooperation in basic and frontier fields such as artificial intelligence, jointly creating a benchmark for the construction of Shanghai's science and innovation center, and setting a standard for high-level scientific research and talent training in Shanghai and across the country, thereby supporting the development of national strategic industries.
The strategic cooperation will focus on dual appointments of personnel, joint training of doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers. In terms of dual appointments, both parties plan to introduce outstanding young talents from top international universities or leading companies. SIAS will recommend young talents for dual appointments at ECNU, and ECNU will support outstanding young faculty members for dual appointments at the institute. In terms of talent training, the two parties will jointly establish a doctoral program, implementing a "dual-supervisor system" (institute project leader + university supervisor). Additionally, the two parties will jointly establish a postdoctoral workstation to recruit postdoctoral researchers together, further strengthening the talent reserve in the field of interdisciplinary computational science.
The signing ceremony was presided over by Meng Zhongjie, the Deputy Secretary of the ECNU Party Committee.
